Queens Botanical Garden

Starting as a 5-acre “Gardens on Parade” exhibit in 1939 for the World’s Fair showcase, the Queen Botanical Garden blossomed into a 39-acre oasis unlike any other botanical garden in the world. Featuring a variety of collections, you can peruse at your leisure through the rose gardens, wetland and woodland gardens, cherry circle, and the four season’s border, and by registration only, the children’s garden for youth 2 through 14.

Queens Botanical Garden is open Tuesday through Sunday, 8 am to 6 pm from April to October. The cost is $6 for adults, $4 for students with ID, $2 for children ages 4 to 12, and free for children 3 and under. Admission is free on Wednesdays from 3 to 6 pm and Sundays from 9 to 11 am. As always, admission is free for members!

Sloomoo Institute

Sensory play is a staple in early childhood development, but that doesn’t mean kids at heart won’t enjoy a trip to the Sloomoo Institute! This 8000 square foot space is erupting with different combinations of smells and textures. From cloudlike cotton candy textures to smooth, buttery grape soda scents, there are over thirty vats of goo to stimulate your senses.

The Nolen Library

The Nolen Library

Housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Nolen Library is a wonderful outing for families with a thirst for knowledge. You can find material covering topics from general histories of art, periodicals, graphic novels, and art-related videos.

The Nolen Library has one of the best children’s rooms in New York City. The Reading Room features over 500 picture books, art-related games and activities, and a vast collection of books in world languages. Children 18 months through 7 years can enjoy Story Time almost every day of the week.

Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art is a cultural experience the whole family can enjoy. Kids 16 and under get free admission every day. Audio guides are a great way to get younger children involved in the enrichment experience.

With collections, ranging from prints to performance, sculptures, textile, and interiors, product design, and more, there is something for everyone in your family at the Museum of Modern Art.

The Bronx Night Market

Featuring over 50 vendors, the Bronx Night Market is a great Saturday excursion for your family. Celebrating a diverse cuisine and multiple cultures, your family can explore the best the borough has to offer.

Coney Island

Is it really springtime if you haven’t visited Coney Island? The classic adventure features rides, games, shops, and dining to give a family experience you won’t soon forget. Some of the most iconic attractions include the New York Aquarium, William’s Candy, and the original Nathan’s Famous.

Deon’s Wonder Wheel Amusement park features 5 thrill rides and 16 children’s rides, the most memorable being the Wonder Wheel. Standing 150 feet tall, the historic landmark was built in 1920 and has 16 swinging cars that slide on a track towards the center of the Wonder Wheel. It is an exhilarating experience for thrill-seekers of all ages.

Luna Park, opened in 2010 and named after the original Luna Park, features 28 rides and 13 carnival games. The majority of the historic Coney Island rides are located in Luna Park, including the Coney Island Cyclone. The Cyclone is a wooden roller coaster that was originally built in 1927, refurbished in the 1970s, and is still operating to this day!
